Classic Match-3 Puzzling With a Twist

In Farm Heroes Saga, players are presented with a grid of shiny, happy fruits and vegetables. Your job is to swap adjacent pieces to make matches of 3 or more. If you have played Bejeweled or Candy Crush Saga, you know this puzzle style well.

Farm Heroes Saga puts its own unique twist on this concept by adding bonuses to the board that appear as you play the game. When you successfully make a match, the nearby tiles gain an extra point in value. If you can make a match on one of those spots, you’ll hit your quota of that puzzle piece faster.

If you can make a match of 5, you’ll clear all tiles of that type off of the board, putting a serious dent in your quota. Bigger matches equal serious rewards!

If you meet your quota with moves to spare, you’ll go into a special game mode called Hero Mode. In Hero Mode, you can utilize any remaining moves with an increased score, raking up the points for the highest final score possible.

Boss Modes

Being a farmer is a full time job, and you just never know what’s going to happen next. To change things up, Farm Heroes Saga has the occasional boss level to give players a little extra challenge. Defend the crops from the antics of Rancid Raccoon and his cohorts by making specific matches on the board.

Boosters

Few mobile games would be complete without boosters. Farm Heroes Saga is no exception. Magic beans, shovels, color collect, tractors, bonus rewards, clean up boosters and more all change up gameplay to make difficult levels a little easier.

Go Head to Head with Friends

Farm Heroes Saga makes it easy to play with friends. Hook the app up with Facebook to compete head to head with the scores of your friends, or play cooperatively and send each other lives when needed. Farming is better with friends!

Adorable Graphics and Great Sound

The puzzle pieces in Farm Heroes Saga are bright and happy, with expressive faces that are sweet and cheerful. The art style is unique and memorable, with vibrant colors and fantastic animations to keep things interesting, round after round.

The sound effects are excellent as well, with joyful crops cheering as they’re cleared from the stage. The cute factor is off the charts!

Free to Play

Farm Heroes Saga is free to play. There are optional in-game purchases that will speed things up and give you the competitive edge, but they’re totally optional. If you want to play for free, you can do so with a little time and patience.

Over 1,000 Levels!

King hit a home run with their runaway favorite, Candy Crush Saga. What’s a gaming giant to do but release a clone of their most popular game to date? Farm Heroes Saga is exactly what it looks like: The healthy eating alternative to the sugar coated puzzler with millions of players. Is this veggie flavored variant worth downloading? Read on to find out!

Candy Crush, with Veggies!

If you suspected that this game was basically the same as Candy Crush, you’re correct. Whether or not that’s a bad thing depends on how you feel about Candy Crush. If you like Candy Crush, there is plenty to love about the game’s country bumpkin of a cousin.

Farm Heroes Saga is pure match-3 gameplay. Players are presented with a grid of grinning veggies and fruits (more on the smiles later) and the goal is to swap adjacent pieces to make matches of 3 or more. The levels give you specific quotas of veggies to harvest, and you’ve got to gather enough within the amount of moves you’ve been given.

The twist is that successfully matching crops on the board gives nearby pieces a temporary boost. If you can match those up next, you’ll gather more towards your quota. It’s a subtle, simple difference, but it has quite the impact on the strategy of the game.

If you can meet the requirements of the level with moves to spare, you enter Hero Mode. Hero Mode is a chance to spend your remaining moves with a handsome point bonus to boot.

Farm Heroes Saga also employs boss levels to keep things fresh and interesting. The main villain is a raccoon named Rancid, who lives up to his name, coming around to cause mayhem and mischief. Boss levels play pretty much the same as a normal level, but they do give the game a different vibe than usual, making them a success overall.

There is nothing earth shatteringly different about Farm Heroes Saga, and overall, I think that’s a good thing. Fans of the match-3 genre will be satisfied with this game, and it’s an excellent representative of the genre.

Honestly Free to Play

This game can honestly be played without spending a dime. Sure, there is a cooldown period on lives and boosters, but with a little patience, the full game can be experienced on the cheap. This is a welcome change from other free to play apps that end up forcing players to pay for premium items or boosts. Whenever a game approaches monetization like this, it makes me more likely to make a few in-app purchases as a way of saying thank you. The in-app purchases are certainly fun to have, making the game move faster!

Cuteness Level: Max

The fruits, veggies, suns, water drops and more in this game all have chubby, smiling baby faces. This sounds disconcerting, but the art style pulls this off nicely, making the game sweeter than Candy Crush in terms of sweet art style. The fruits and veggies make happy, joyful sounds when they are taken off the board, too.

Even bosses like Rancid the Raccoon are fairly adorable, though he’s got nothing on the baby faced crops. Overall, this game is cute to the max, full of produce that you’ll wish you could hug!

Over 1,000 Levels of Farming Fun

This game isn’t easy to beat, even if you opt to buy extra in-app purchases. Farm Heroes Saga has over one thousand levels to clear. If you’re looking for a big puzzle game with more levels than you can shake a stick at, this is it! Puzzle addicts, rejoice!

Make it Social

This game has Facebook integration. You can use it to cooperate with your buddies, sending them lives when they’re in need. You can also use social integration to go head to head with the high scores of your friends, obliterating their high scores to establish veggie matching dominance within your circle of friends.

Great Graphics, Animations and Sound

King is known for having that professional polish on their titles, and Farm Heroes Saga lives up to this reputation. Everything is colorful, sleek and gorgeous, with quality animations and exceptional sound effects. This game may be veggie themed, but there is plenty of eye candy to go around!

Repetitive Gameplay

There is no denying that this game is repetitive. If you’ve played one level of Farm Heroes Saga, or one level of Candy Crush for that matter, you have played all of the levels in this game. If you don’t adore match-3 style games, you aren’t going to stick around long enough to even make a dent in the 1,000 levels available to play. However, if you like or love match-3 style puzzles, you won’t mind the repetition much at all.

Difficult At Higher Levels

Farm Heroes Saga starts off with easy puzzles that are a breeze to get through, lulling players into a false sense of “I’ve got this!” before ramping up the challenge. The increasing levels of difficulty are a welcome thing until it crosses the line into impossible territory. The difficulty level finally reaches a point where it feels like it’ll take a miracle to clear the level. The good news is that with persistence, those “impossible” levels can be cleared, but a more consistent level of challenge would have been nice.

In Summary

Farm Heroes Saga is a cute and charming match-3 game that has everything going for it that Candy Crush does and then some, providing its own unique twist on this style of puzzle game. The game is ginormous, with over one thousand levels to keep puzzle lovers busy for hours and hours. Overall, it’s a worthy download for any fan of the match-3 genre. This game earns a very solid 7.0, Great! Adorable, memorable and fun!
